WordPress is such a popular blogging platform mainly due to being free, that you may find yourself desiring to jump on it. So you can showcase WordPress visual material on the Web. Being a visual artist or a photographer, you may quite soon feel discouragement when realizing that you don’t have enough expertise in dealing with actual website setup. Truth be told it’s not as complicated as you might think. Here’re a few steps to help you get started:

1. Decide on the domain name

Before people can find your site on the Web it should have an address. So decide what your domain name will be. Options include your personal name, your business name, any other catchy word or a short memorable phrase.

2. Register your domain name

There’re tons of Registrar companies easily found on Google. Do a little research comparing prices and conditions and register your domain name with the most appealing one. It’s highly advisable for you to register it in the top level domain zone with an extension like .com, .net, .org, .biz etc.

3. Subscribe for hosting account

Registrar company only provides you with web address, but you need some place to host it in order to make your portfolio WordPress site visible at that address. Many hosting companies do domain name registration as well, so you can order both services in just a single place. These requirements are what to look for while getting hosting for WordPress:

  • PHP of version 4.3 or higher;
  • MySQL database of version 4.0 or higher;
  • Linux/UNIX with Apache server;
  • 100 mb of hosting disk space minimum.

4. Associate domain name with hosting account

If you ordered both domain name registration and hosting with one company, the association happens automatically. Otherwise contact your Registrar company with the list of name servers your host communicates to you after subscription. So they assign them to your domain name.

5. Install WordPress
