Men with yellow faces and without eyes, noses, lips… This is what you get if your website is not compelling, according to this design studio. So, yellow is not only a bright color, it is also a color of blank.

The same idea of yellow emptiness is conveyed the next site, but this time it is applied to a non-living object, such us space around us.

I was really intrigued with this from the RSS description… It’s very hard to make yellow universally appealing.

Orange is a fair bit easier I’d say. And unless my screen’s dodgy, these are all distinctly orange (apart from weboutsourcingservices, those curtains are indeed yellow).

On a colour-blind level, these are all fairly nice sites. Nice round-up.

  2. Nice post, I have kind of noticed the new yellow themes coming in this summer, but have only noticed it sub conciously. Great post.

  3. hmmmm…most of them are more orange then yellow, still look good though. I’m a developer not a professional designer but it looks like a hard colour to use to me.

I love yellow websites - hence my own site being top-to-bottom yellow. I agree with Barney about yellow being hard to make universally appealing.

I regularly get emails/comments that my yellow site is either fantastic or absolutely dreadful. Sadly, more the latter than the former -and some people can get quite vitriolic about it too.

Personally, I think yellow can be a brilliant colour to use to really make a site stand out.

Yeap - agree with Richard. All but one of the screenshots’ main colour is orange rather than yellow.

Minor niggle aside, thanks for posting a selection of orange sites ;)
